Frequently Asked Questions

What is iku?
iku is a unique Hawaiian art form that creates colorful kaleidoscopic design patterns with charming imperfections. Each geometric pattern is original and non-repeatable.

Are iku patterns computer-generated?
No. iku patterns are completely formed by hand, using an artistic technique which involves not only color manipulation, but also a technique of hand not found in today's computer-generated, mass market imagery. Each original pattern carries an organic feel and the mark of the artist's focus on individuality.

How can iku designs be used?
The possibilities are limitless. iku Design patterns can create decorative tile, glass and china, or used for stationery patterns, bedding design, even corporate wall art - as a stand alone or with trend color and trend design icons.

Will iku designs go out of style?
No. This classic, handmade look can be combined with blocks of solid color, associated patterns or used alone. Unlike dated or fad fashion, iku Design patterns offer a lifestyle look that is appropriate from season to season and for years to come.

How many iku Design patterns are available?
Over 200 design patterns are immediately available and the artists continue to create 30 - 40 patterns each month, resulting in a renewable source of creative for many years to come.

Will you add other artists' work to the iku Design collection?
No. iku Design features only the original artists.

How can I purchase a pattern?
iku Design patterns are available on an exclusive or non-exclusive contractual basis for license. The outright purchase of an iku pattern is handled on a case-by-case basis.

What does the term "license" mean?
Licensing is the process by which one party allows another party to use its intellectual property rights for an agreed set of criteria.
